Kind-hearted staff at a Paisley vet clinic are set to go the distance with their dogs to help raise funds for a brave colleague who has been diagnosed with terminal cancer.
The team at Vets4Pets on Glasgow Road will be taking part in a sponsored walk to help boost donations to a fund for young Paisley mum Gemma Mcgowan.
Veterinary care assistant Gemma, 29, was dealt a devastating blow in March when doctors told her that her cancer was terminal.
We previously told how the mum-of-one is one of just three people in the world to be diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the nasal cavity.
Following her tragic diagnosis in May last year, Gemma has been courageously fighting the disease - even undergoing gruelling chemotherapy while pregnant with her son, Arran.
But, despite months of treatments, including radiotherapy, immunotherapy and life-changing surgery in which surgeons had to remove her eye - Gemma and her heartbroken family have been told nothing more can be done.
Gemma is now using the time she has left to make as many memories as she can with six-month-old Arran and partner of nine years, Steven Murie.
Her colleagues at the Paisley vet clinic now want to do whatever they can to help Gemma make the most of her time.
Vets4Pets practice manager Sophie Luke said: “She has been so brave about it and we just thought this was the least we could do for her.
“She is so well thought of here by everyone and we all miss her and we wanted to support her in any way we could.”
The team of 14 staff and their dogs will be heading out tomorrow, where they will walk a loop around Jenny’s Well after starting out at the Glasgow Road vet clinic at 11am.
The team - which has worked alongside Gemma since she started at the practice in 2017 - is asking people to donate to the GoFundMe page which was set up by her family.
The page - which had an initial target of £10,000 - has so far raised almost £15,000.
Sophie added: “We are all looking forward to it and hope that we can help raise some more money for Gemma as she deserves it.
“We are asking people who want to sponsor us to make a donation through the GoFundMe page.”
