Kind-hearted McDonald's East Kilbride team make donation to Women's Aid

A fast-food chain donated hundreds of items to Women’s Aid thanks to its generous employees.

Women’s Aid South Lanarkshire and East Renfrewshire is based in East Kilbride town centre and a group of staff from McDonald’s outlets in the town dropped by with a stack-full of much needed items.

Donations were gathered from the three McDonald’s in the town and other franchises in Rutherglen, Castlemilk, Motherwell and Bellshill.

This included everything from nappies, wipes, cleaning products, feminine hygiene product and pens and colouring pads.

Women’s Aid is always looking for a range of items to help support women and children who often flee abuse with absolutely nothing.

Kate Walker, franchisee of the seven outlets who gathered the items said: “Our employees are amongst the most generous and kind-hearted people and it was an easy decision for us to support this wonderful charity after I saw a Facebook plea asking people to donate to Women’s Aid.

“We try to encourage our crew to pay it forward and get involved in community initiatives but even we were surprised by the huge support shown almost immediately.

“Employing nearly 700 people and using what we call ‘the power of crew’, we can support local charities in ways that others can’t as we have so many people willing to help.

“I’m so proud of our people and their generosity to this cause.”

Women’s Aid is currently appealing for a number of items including drinking glasses/tumblers, wall canvases (no glass), cushions, new bedding and duvets (double and single), kitchen utensils and throws.

Gift vouchers to be given to older children and young people who come into refuge would also be appreciated as the charity currently has items to pass on to younger children.
