Kind hearted Dumfries shoppers are supporting the Standard's Christmas Toy Appeal

Staff and customers at the Tesco supermarket at the Peel Centre in Dumfries are doing their bit to help The Standard’s Christmas Toy Appeal.

Donations of toys and sweet treats can be left in the collection box near the tills – look out for our special Toy Appeal poster.

You will also see the poster at many points around the town and you have until Monday, December 16, to take part.

We are seeking an outpouring of Christmas spirit which will bring smiles to the faces of underprivileged children in the region and urgently need donations of new toys, sweets or gift cards for newborns to 16-year-olds.

Our agency lists are now showing a rise in the number of two, three, seven, 10 and 11 year old boys and girls so presents for this age would be much appreciated in the next week or so.

Please remember:

■ We need new toys, sweets or gift cards;

■ Second-hand toys will not be accepted;

■ Soft toys must have the CE kitemark and tag;

■ There is no need to wrap up your gifts.

You can take your gifts to: Tesco Extra at Cuckoo Bridge and the Tesco supermarket at the Peel Centre; Morrisons supermarket in Brooms Road; the Nationwide Building Society near Burns Statue in Dumfries; and at Atwal Convenience Stores, 69 Springbells Rd, Annan (until Monday, December 9).

Just buy a gift or sweet treat and pop it in the box.

Marks and Spencer in Dumfries has a special Christmas tree bearing our toy appeal red tags near the coffee shop and Debenhams also have a tagged Christmas tree for the appeal. Up to December 16, just take a tag from the tree at either shop and buy a gift suitable for the child named on it. Then, add the tag and place the gift in the collection box near the tree.

In addition, Thomas Tosh in Thornhill (until Tuesday, December 10) also has a tagged tree collection point.

So have The Crichton Trust within Easterbrook Bistro, Bar and Spa, along with The University of the West of Scotland at Dudgeon House – both until Wednesday, December 11.

You can also take part by sending us a cheque (marked Toy Appeal) and send to: Toy Appeal, Dumfries Standard, Park Lane, Dumfries, DG1 2AX, or donate to our account at Bank of Scotland, Dumfries.

The account number is 10856666 and the sort code is 80-22-60.

■ We are calling on our readers, businesses, clubs, churches, schools and individuals to join us in helping families this festive season. If you can help contact Sharon Liptrott on 01387 240330 or sharon.liptrott@reachplc.com
