Kind-hearted Dublin locals rescue dog who fell under DART train in Shankill

A Dublin dog has some heroic passengers to thank he fell between the gap of a train and platform.

They say cats have nine lives, but Kody might think he's got a few in the bank himself after kind-hearted commuters helped save his life.

The scary scenario unfolded at Shankill DART station on Monday morning when Kody's "legs gave way" as he exited the train.

He then "slipped down" along with his lead according to his owner Gary who desperately tried to claw him back, Dublin Live reports.

It was a race against time as the train was about to start moving again - and quick-thinking passengers were not letting Kody go without a fight.

Gary told how one man "sprinted" down to the driver to stop him moving off while others helped him until the black labrador resurfaced.

His relieved owner never got to thank many of the passengers personally, as they had boarded the train and left after they got Kody out - so Gary took to a local Facebook group to express his and the lovable mutt's gratitude to everyone involved.

He said: "I just want to say thank you so much to the people who helped out in the DART station this morning when my black lab fell between the train and the platform.

"It was a pretty horrific moment and I am so grateful to the guy who sprinted up to the driver to make sure that the train did not pull off.

"I didn't get a chance to say thank you as the train had pulled off before I could.

"Kody was fine but just a little shaken up, I took him to the vet to make sure.

"It seems as if his back legs gave way as he was getting off the DART, he was on his lead but slipped down and as I tried desperately to grab him, his collar came off. His last time on the DART!"

Gary went on to say the reason he took him home on the DART was that Kody had gotten tired after they walked to Bray.

He later found out the adorable dog suffers from arthritis, with his vet explaining that's why his legs slipped off.

He's now on steroid medication, and is probably getting some tighter hugs.
