Kind hearted Derry man helps families stay connected with portal donation

A Derry man has kindly helped local families and care home residents stay connected after raising thousands for tablet devices.

Danny Glenn, of UTurn Fitness in the city, said he decided to donate the tablets after his friend was unable to stay in contact with his parents.

The personal trainer has raised more than £3,500 to donate the Facebook Portal devices to 13 local care homes.

Speaking to Belfast Live, Danny said he was happy to be able to contribute in this small way.

He said: "The original idea came from my friend Ciaran Murray.

"His parents are both in a care home and he ran a £15k fundraiser to buy PPE, so he bought the first device and put a call out for others to buy more.

"After speaking with him, I offered to set up a new campaign to get all the care homes in the city devices."

He added: "We organised a bonus ball for a free 12 week body transformation and supplements, which sold out in no time, raising £590 so we then decided to do another and it sold out again, raising a total of £1180.

"We have since received word that another local business man wanted to kindly donated 10 tablets to one of the wards in Altnagelvin Hospital.

"Every care home that we have given a device to has said it would be a massive help to them.

"The people of Derry always turn out when people are in most need and I am happy that I was able to contribute in a small way."
