Kind-hearted Cambuslang teen creates Mother's Day gifts and raises funds for homeless charity

A Cambuslang teenager, who has won her way to the final of a nationwide pageant, has found a sweet way of raising funds for a homeless charity – while helping mums feel like a queen this Mother’s Day.

Cathkin High School pupil Rachel Campbell, 15, beat off competition from hundreds of other hopefuls to reach the final of Miss Teen GB – a pageant for girls aged 10 to 19, covering Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Now, big-hearted Rachel is proving that she’s more than a pretty face by selling Mother’s Day hampers crammed full of chocolate treats for sweet-toothed mums, while at the same time raising vital funds for The Kindness Homeless Street Team Glasgow.

Profits from the hampers, which contain a box of Cadbury’s Milk Tray, Cadbury’s Caramel, Twirl, Flake, Galaxy and Milky Way chocolate bars, will go to the homeless charity.

The hampers are on sale for £17, including local delivery.

And for just £3 more, Rachel – who is also planning to raise funds for the Rutherglen and Cambuslang Food Bank through an Easter egg collection – will attach a special Mother’s Day balloon.

It’s not the first time that the kind-hearted schoolgirl has gone the extra mile for charity.

In May last year, when she was named Miss Junior Teen Lanarkshire, Rachel took
up the 2.6K challenge in place of the London Marathon, and generated £120 for charity, Together for Short Lives.

Now she is looking forward to representing Lanarkshire in the final of the pageant at The Globe on Blackpool Pleasure Beach on October 24 and 25, when she hopes to be crowned Miss Teen GB in a contest that offers teenagers the chance to participate in a competition that combines glamour with celebrating their success and achievements.

Organisers promise to give finalists the “character-building experience of a lifetime” and newly-gained confidence.

“It feels surreal to be through,” said Rachel.

“I have wanted to enter for a while and, in the crazy year of 2020, I thought I would just go for it.

“And I’m so glad that I did!”
