Kind hearted Cambuslang man shaves head to raise funds for those affected by the coronavirus crisis

A Cambuslang man has shaved his head to raise cash to fund “essentials packs” for those in need during the coronavirus crisis.

Kenny Noble last weekend made the decision to help support residents who are housebound through self-isolation or because they are in a vulnerable group.

“I was out walking thinking what can I do to help prevent people panicking,” Kenny, 40, told the Reformer.

“And with all the scaremongering on social media and the shops being emptied, I thought I’d do something different and make up essentials packs to deliver to those in need.

“Particularly those over 70 who need a little extra help in getting the essentials.

“The packs that I’ll deliver will include, teabags, pasta, soup, beans, toilet roll, toothpaste, pasta sauce, tinned meat, biscuits, diluting juice and deodorant, and I’ll be buying everything from local stores and not supermarkets so that it is also helping local businesses stay afloat in the current climate.

“I have quite a big car, I work from home most of the time and I have some free time, so I felt this is how I can help during this coronavirus climate.” Kenny, a development manager with a renewable energy company, set up a JustGiving page with an initial target of £500 to fund the items for the essential packs.

However, within 24 hours, Kenny’s page had raised more than £700.

He said: “I had said to workmates I would shave my hair off if I reached £500.

“They were so keen to see me with a skinhead that they all spread the word and chipped in.

“My brother Calum did the honours with the clippers and my six-year-old niece, Ava, held my hand for moral support.

“I also said I was willing to get rid of one of my prized possessions – my beard – if we managed to raise another £300.

“So that is going to have to come off as well, especially now that my page has raised more than £1000.

“My poor wife wasn’t impressed when I told her about the head shave without talking to her first. I don’t have a head that suits a skinhead!”

Now Kenny needs the Cambuslang and Rutherglen community to help spread the word to those who may need his support.

He added: “Getting anyone to contact me with a requirement is the hardest part. If everyone could spread the word to friends and family within South Lanarkshire and Glasgow who needs a bag delivered within these areas, to get  in touch and I will aim to deliver a package within 24 hours.”
