Kind-hearted Cambuslang kids raise funds for cancer charity

Two kind-hearted Cambuslang kids are putting their best foot forward for a good cause.

Siblings Lewis and Millie Ritchie, who are aged just five and three, wanted to do something for their gran Beth, who has cancer.

Beth has been helped by Macmillan Cancer Support, so Lewis and Millie – aided by mum Jodie and dad Stuart – decided to fundraise for the charity.

Over four weeks the Drumsagard family are walking or cycling four miles every day, no matter the weather.

And they have already raised more than £1300.

Proud mum Jodie explained: “They know that mum is ill and that she has had a lot of support from Macmillan, and they have said they wanted to do something for their gran.

“So the walk seemed something that was straightforward and also good exercise for them.

“It is a challenge because they are obviously small kids and they
are going a good distance, but they know it’s for gran so are determined to do it.

“I’m very proud of them for wanting to do it.”

Even the recent bad weather hasn’t deterred the dynamic duo.

Jodie went on: “They have  kept going through rain, snow and ice.

“Their dad is very outdoorsy and they are the same, even if it’s just a walk to Newton train station and back. Lots of people have been kind enough to donate and I’d like to say thanks to everyone who has helped so far.”

Similarly, Jodie has nothing but praise for the work that Macmillan do to help people.

The charity have helped her mum Beth since she was first diagnosed five years ago. Jodie explained: “They have been very supportive the whole time, really amazing.

“It is why we wanted to try and help them.”
