A kind hearted resident has been awarded Callander’s Outstanding Citizen Award.
Calum Menzies was last week presented with the gong for his “exceptional kindness and help in the community”.
Calum runs the town’s Post Office and is also a volunteer member of Killin Mountain Rescue Team.
In April last year, his father, Hamish Menzies, who was the UK’s longest serving postal worker sadly passed away. Calum stepped up and kept the post office running during a difficult time for the family.
For many years, Callander Community Council presented its annual Citizen of the Year award to one recipient who made valuable contributions within the community – that could be an outstanding action which was done during a major incident or a long term commitment to helping someone or something in the community.
Community councillor Richard Johnson said: “This year we realised that we had someone in the community – Calum Menzies – who was worthy of more than the Citizen of the Year Award. We therefore agreed to a new award, which would not be an annual award but one, which was awarded to an exceptional member of the community, and it is called the Outstanding Citizen Award. We presented Calum with a silver quaich with the inscription: ‘Callander Outstanding Citizen 2021 – Calum Menzies – For exceptional kindness and help in the community’.”

Following the presentation of the award, Calum said: “I was completely humbled by it all.
“I’d like to thank Richard Johnson and the entire community for this award. It’s a great honour.”
