Kind Glasgow MUA offers make-up and lashes for £8 and there is a sweet reason why

A kindhearted Scots make-up artist is offering a full face of make-up and lashes for £8 so those who can't afford industry prices have a chance to feel glamorous.

Olivia Nelson, from Wishaw , works as a make-up artist in her spare time after training at college.

The 20-year-old came up with sweet gesture after she realised the pressure parents were under to splash out on professional make-up for teenagers for prom .

Speaking about the offer, Olivia said: "I remember reading an article in college about the pressure parents were under when it came to prom time to find a make-up artist who wasn't charging more than £30 for a full face.

"Most parents struggle to afford £300 for a dress or suit never mind the all the extras.

"I was working part time and wasn't on set shifts so I was unable to do makeup around my job and most clients want to book in advance."

She was praised for her £8 offer after she advertised the idea on Twitter and the tweet went viral .

She wrote on Twitter: "People asking why I’m only charging £8 for full face + lashes - I understand there is people who can’t afford £40+ for makeup , makeup for me is fun and so I set my prices to £8 so everyone can feel pretty , the £8 only covers the price of lashes which is all I need."

The tweet was retweeted 1,400 times and favourited 24,100 times.

Reacting to the response Olivia said: "I've had so many positive responses it's really overwhelming. I'm actually fully booked for the next 4 weeks.

But the tweet also generated a lot of negative reaction after angry make-up artists said her heavily discounted services would affect business for those who are self-employed and work full time.

Olivia said: "I was not expecting the backlash I received as I thought I was doing a good deed although there will always be people who have something to say about what you do , you just can't let it effect you if you know you're doing it for all the right reasons."
