Kind college students praise staff for tireless support over the last year

Students at an East Kilbride-based college have shown their appreciation to their lecturers with surprise thank you messages.

The messages, which were posted on social media and via staff emails at South Lanarkshire College, were published recently and highlighted a range of thank you messages for staff across the college.

The #ThanksToMyLecturer campaign gave students the chance to submit either written or video thank you messages to their lecturers for their support and guidance over the past year.

Over 50 individual messages were submitted from students over the space of a week.

One student, Jemma, said the past year had "been a real struggle" pointing to her efforts to "home school four children, juggling having two babies and doing my own course work".

The SWAP access to nursing student told Lanarkshire Live : "They have been outstanding.

"The only reason I have been able to complete this course is due to my lecturers..”

College principal, Aileen McKechnie, added: "This campaign has really highlighted the enormous impact of all our wonderful staff on our wider college community.

“In the face of such exceptional circumstances, our college community has demonstrated deep resilience, incredible flexibility, and absolute determination to work together to ensure student success and compassion for all those around us.

"Our staff have been outstanding in supporting our students, supporting each other and the wider community, as well as supporting the work of the college over this past year.

"I am so proud of all of them.

Aileen pointed to more than just lecturers and teaching staff, praising the college's support and management teams.

She added: "Our ICT team has gone above and beyond to ensure everyone at the college had access to the tools needed to undertake their teaching or learning.

"Our student services team have been tireless in their support for our students and applicants; our HR and finance and funding teams have ensured our staff had the resources needed to perform their jobs effectively; and our facilities team have been a constant presence, keeping us all safe every single day and ensuring our campus remains COVID-secure.
