'Kind and caring' 13-year-old schoolboy who died suddenly has been named by police

Tributes have been paid to a 13-year-old Welsh schoolboy who died suddenly.

Jai Palermo, who was a pupil at Haverfordwest High VC School in Pembrokeshire, died last Thursday (January 23).

A fundraising campaign has been set up to help Jai’s family at this tragic time and it has already raised more than £9,000 in five days.

The man who set up the campaign, Simon Henton, has paid tribute to a “kind and caring young boy”.

“I’m raising money to lighten the load on the parents and family of Jai, who tragically passed away and left all his family and friends heartbroken. They loved him so much and will miss him unconditionally.

“He was such a kind and caring young boy who was loving to his sisters and who made such an impression on everyone he met.

“This will just help and take a small bit of stress off family at this distressing time. From myself and family and everyone who new you Jai, rest in peace boy.”

As of Tuesday afternoon, the page set up in memory of Jai, which can be accessed here, had raised £9,265.

HM Coroner for Pembrokeshire has opened an inquest into the cause of Jai's death.

A spokeswoman for Dyfed-Powys Police said: “We can confirm that the 13-year-old from Hook who sadly died last week has been formally identified as Jai Palermo.

“The inquest has been opened and adjourned to a later date.”

Police added that they are not treating the death as suspicious.
