Kincaidston explosion: Householders await call to return inside blast zone

Scores of residents are spending a fifth night away from their homes in Kincaidston following the devastating events of earlier this week.

South Ayrshire Council has confirmed 35 properties are still inside the cordon set up after Monday night's blast.

A family of four remain hospitalised in Glasgow – with a mother, 43, and her 16-year-old son in a critical condition.

Almost 400 homes have been returned to residents since the explosion which saw a mass evacuation take place.

Volunteers have since launched a huge effort, based out of the local community pavilion, aimed at supporting stricken families.

But council bosses tonight confirmed a large number will head into the weekend still separated from their homes.

A statement read: "We intend to call each of those householders today to advise them of next steps.

"Outside the cordon and within the wider area, 389 properties have been deemed safe and householders have, or are being advised that they can now return.

"We are preparing to issue letters to householders who have been affected by the incident.

"These letters will provide advice and information regarding any repairs which may required to properties.

"For more information and support, residents affected can call 0300 123 0900."
