Kincaidston explosion: Demolition teams move on Ayr homes affected by blast

A demolition team has moved in to flatten houses affected by a major blast in Ayr.

Diggers have begun to pull down at least one other home impacted by the explosion in Gorse Park - with another house likely to be brought down.

One house was already completely destroyed in Monday night's blast.

The clean up has continued in Kincaidston for the third day after the huge blast wiped out the home of a family of four who are still battling serious injuries in three separate hospitals.

Marion Ferguson, 43, and William Ferguson, 47, were pulled from the wreckage along with their sons, aged 16 and 11.

Today South Ayrshire Council confirmed that a total of 386 homes have been inspected in the estate and deemed safe for return.

But 35 homes remain in a no-go zone with a cordon still in place after they were rocked by the blast.

Gas group SGN have installed a temporary mains line to bypass safe working gas to homes in the vicinity.

A probe continues with the The Health and Safety Executive confirming they are investigating with police and SGN.

Four houses were immediately affected by the explosion at 7.10pm on Monday evening.

The house belonging to the injured family was completely destroyed as debris flew across the estate landing on cars and in gardens.

The council has placed safety as a priority before rehoming any residents.

Depute Council Leader, Brian McGinley, told Ayrshire Live: "The council is working as hard and as fast as it can.

"This is all about the safety of residents, there are some scenarios where some neighbours are allowed back home but others are not. It's a complex operation."

Meanwhile a Kincaidston mum has sparked a campaign for a ban on fireworks this year after children were left 'on edge'.

Gemma McMillan has warned that even the slightest bang is bringing back the terrifying events on Monday night.

A spokesperson for HSE said: “HSE is aware of the incident and are making enquiries.”
