
Keiichi Kimura won a gold medal on Friday in the men's 100 meter butterfly S11, a class for those with visual impairments, at the Tokyo Paralympic Games at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre, and debutant Uchu Tomita earned a silver medal.
Kimura, 30, came in at 1 minute 2.57 seconds and Tomita, 32, at 1 minute 3.59 seconds.
"I have been putting all my effort for this day," Kmura said after the race. "I now know that such a day can really come true."
Recalling his hardships in order to grab the gold medal, Kimura added, "Now I want to go home and cry to my heart's content."
Tomita said: "I'm happy for Kimura's gold medal. I'm happy that I could finish with silver after him."
Kimura earned the silver medal in the men's 100-meter breaststroke and Tomita took the silver medal in the men's 400-meter freestyle as well as the bronze in the men's 200-meter individual medley at the Tokyo Paralympic Games.
Kimura made his Paralympic debut at the 2008 Beijing Games and has participated in four consecutive Games.
