The animated film based on the manga and TV anime "Kimetsu no Yaiba" (Demon Slayer) earned more than 10 billion yen at the box office in its first 10 days, becoming the fastest domestic release to achieve the feat, movie distributors Toho Co. and Aniplex Inc. said Monday.
The film, "Gekijoban 'Kimetsu no Yaiba' Mugenressha-hen" (Demon Slayer -- Kimetsu no Yaiba -- The Movie: Mugen Train), broke the previous record, set by "Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi" (Spirited Away), which took 25 days to reach 10 billion yen in 2001.
The new film opened in theaters on Oct. 16 and had earned about 10.7 billion yen by Sunday, according to the distributors.
