Kim Min-jae to get dream Tottenham shirt number if he seals transfer but on one condition

Tottenham Hotspur could yet dip into the transfer market before the January window closes.

Despite bolstering his first-team squad last summer with several shrewd additions, Spurs boss Jose Mourinho is being tipped to do at least one piece of business this month.

The latest name being linked with a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is that of South Korea international Kim Min-jae.

According to the Mirror, Spurs are 'weighing up a bid' this month and have stepped up their interest due to growing concerns of competition from London rivals Chelsea.

If Kim was to join the Lilywhites, supporters will be looking forward to seeing the 24-year-old holding the Tottenham shirt at his unveiling - but what squad number could the midfielder take in N17?

Well, it would appear that Kim has two favoured options.

He's worn no.2 for Beijing Guoan ever since joining from Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors three years ago, but for the South Korea national team he has worn no.4 since upgrading from no.3 in the 2018/19 international window.

At Tottenham, the incumbent no.2 and no.4 are Matt Doherty and Toby Alderweireld respectively.

So unless the aforementioned duo are willing to vacate their shirt numbers at the end of the season, then Kim would have to look elsewhere if he was to become the latest Spurs signing.

With that said, what other squad numbers would be available to the defender if he does sign for Spurs in the January transfer window?

Below, we take a look to see what numbers are currently free at Tottenham.

No.13

Usually reserved for the second-choice goalkeeper in the squad, the number 13 was made vacant this summer following Michel Vorm's exit.

No.16

With Kyle Walker-Peters having joined Southampton, the number 16 is available for any new Spurs signings.

No.26

Although the No.26 shirt has not been officially retired by the club, it seems that Spurs do not want anyone to take on Ledley King's famous number.

Nobody at the club has worn the shirt since the defender retired in 2012.

With Ryan Sessegnon, Juan Foyth, and Oliver Skipp all out on loan this season, technically no.19, no.21, and no.29 are all vacant at the moment.
