There really wasn’t going to be anybody else who would win a ‘break the internet’ award was there?
Kim Kardashian-West, who graced the front of Paper magazine nude alongside the infamous headline, was awarded the “Special achievement: Break the Internet award" at the Webby awards in New York City on Monday evening.
The awards, which celebrate digital talent, chose Kardashian-West as the recipient “for her unparalleled success online”. Award rules dictate that winners are only allowed to say a five word acceptance speech.
Kardashian West’s chosen words were: “Naked selfies till I die”, a reference to another internet-breaking stunt when she tweeted a nude selfie in March, sending the online community into a frenzy of opinionated tweets and think pieces.
The businesswoman/entrepreneur/reality television star has launched a number of successful digital ventures, such as the creation of a line of emojis called 'Kimoji' and her Kim Kardashian Hollywood game, which has proved wildly successful.
Kanye West, who is also notoriously outspoken online, was the winner of the artist of the year category. Jessica Alba won entrepreneur of the year, Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner won founders of the year for their Lenny newsletter and the social media movement of the year went to Black Lives Matter.
