Kim Kardashian spoofs Legally Blonde video and dresses as Elle Woods for Halloween

Kim Kardashian West has won internet plaudits for her tongue-in-cheek Halloween costume, which paid homage to cult film Legally Blonde

Kardashian West recreated several looks worn by protagonist Elle Woods (played by Reese Witherspoon) in the film.

Legally Blondetells the story of a Californian sorority girl who goes to Harvard Law School in pursuit of a man, but accidentally finds her legal calling along the way.

Among the signature styles selected by Kardashian West for her version of the admissions video that gets Elle into Harvard were a glittery green bikini and a form-fitting pink dress.

In the clip, posted by Kardashian West to her social media platforms, she delivers quotes from the original film, including proof that she feels “comfortable using legal jargon in everyday life” by telling a cat-caller “I object!” when heckled.

Kardashian West has previously been compared to the fictional character after announcing her intention to take the bar in 2022.

The 39-year-old is currently undertaking a four-year apprenticeship with a legal firm in San Francisco, which requires her to study for 18 hours a week.

Social media users also appreciated the double meaning in Kardashian West’s costume.

“Wait – Elle became a lawyer and Kim is studying to be one… YOUR MIND,” tweeted one fan.

“Convinced Kim Kardashian became a lawyer so she could WIN Halloween with her Elle Woods outfits,” posted another

However, some have accused Kardashian West of “stealing” the idea from a parody video made in June, which featured YouTube comedian Benito Skinner depicting Kardashian as Elle Woods.

In it, Mr Skinner spoofs the Legally Blondeadmissions video in character as Kardashian West.

"Oh, hey you guys. My name is Kim Kardashian West and I'm going to tell you why I'm going to make an amazing lawyer," he says.

“Where’s the credit to [@bennydrama] for inspiring u doing this lol?” a Twitter user said, in response to a tweet by Kardashian West listing personnel credited for her video.

Instagram meme influencer Sebastian Tribbie also highlighted the similarities in a post on his account @youvegotnomale.

“@kimkardashian if you are gonna rip off @bennydrama7 at least do a good job with it,” Mr Tribbie wrote in a lengthy caption.

“The worst part is your basic ass fans are gonna think that you are icon [sic] & so ORIGINAL for doing this but @bennydrama7 slayed this and you know. You never posted the video but your sisters did! WE SEE EACH OTHER.’

Khloe Kardashian shared Mr Skinner’s version of the video essay on her Instagram story in June.
