Kim Kardashian shares unseen photos of 'back-up' Marilyn Monroe dress for Met Gala

Kim Kardashian has posted photos of an unseen 'second' Marilyn Monroe dress she had as back-up to her iconic 2022 Met Gala look.

The 41-year-old took centre stage at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Monday evening when she wore the figure-hugging Jean Louis gown that Monroe wore when she sang 'Happy Birthday' to then-US president John F. Kennedy at a fundraiser held at Madison Square Garden on May 19, 1962.

The SKIMS founder was loaned the outfit from the Ripley's Believe It or Not! museum, which paid $4.8m (£3.9m) for the dress - that has more than 6,000 crystals adorned on it - at an auction in November 2016.

But she sparked controversy when she revealed that she lost 16lbs in order to fit into the outfit.

Kardashian revealed to Vogue during the red carpet event she was on a no-carb and no-sugar diet over a three-week period. She also admitted that she wore a sauna suit two times a day and ran on the treadmill, as well as bleaching her hair for more than 10 hours, to complete the iconic look.

Without naming Kim, Riverdale actress Lili Reinhart criticised "stupid, harmful celebrities whose entire image revolves around their bodies".

Kim's weight-loss efforts still proved in vain somewhat as she could not zip up the dress fully, with the Keeping Up with the Kardashians alum covering her back with a white fur shawl.

And she has now revealed that she had another dress from the actress in her "quest" to find her Met Gala look.

On Friday, Kim released unseen photos of her wearing Monroe's green sparkling Norman Norell dress that she wore at the Golden Globes in 1962 where she received the Henrietta Award For 'World Film Favourite'.

The beauty mogul can be seen posing with the actual Golden Globe award Monroe had received in the same dress as her heroine in a selection of six photos.

Accompanying the images, Kim wrote on Instagram : "To top off my night after The Met, I had the honor of changing into Marilyn Monroe's Norman Norell dress that she wore to the Golden Globes in 1962 —where she received the Henrietta Award For World Film Favorite.

"In my quest to find the Jean Louis hand beaded dress that I wore to the gala, I discovered @heritageauctions owned Marilyn’s iconic green sequined gown.

"Further into my research I found out that the owner of the Golden Globe that she received that evening was none other than my friend @jeffleatham. I saw this all as a sign the way that all of the stars aligned.

"It will forever be one of the greatest privileges of my life to be able to channel my inner Marilyn in this way, on such a special night.

"Thank you Heritage Auctions, Barbara Zweig and Jeff for helping to make this memory possible."
