Kim Kardashian has set the internet alight after appearing on a red carpet with her face completely covered in a beige-toned mask.
The star — who perhaps thought Halloween had come early — debuted the puzzling look at the Academy Museum Gala, turning (and covering) heads with an outfit that feels like something ripped straight out of Dune.
The mask encased Kardashian’s entire head and hair, and was paired with a nude Maison Margiela gown and a skintight corset bodice.
As if there wasn’t already enough fabric in unnecessary places, the gown also had sleeves attached to the hem, giving Kardashian a bat-like silhouette that does little to beat those sandworm allegations.
George Clooney, Zoe Kravitz, Jenna Ortega and Penelope Cruz were among the guests at the swanky event — which raises funds to support museum exhibitions — and I’d pay good money to see their reactions whenever Kardashian tried to take a sip of her drink.
Naturally, since the only thing certain in life is death, taxes, and a Kardashian overrunning our timelines, it wasn’t long before the internet got wind of the outfit… and the reactions were predictably hilarious.
“Are we sure that’s Kim? It’s not an imposter?” one user wrote on X, while another on TikTok asked if she is “playing hide and seek”. Others said interviewers on the red carpet were “trying to hold [their] laughs in”, or compared the look to an Egyptian mummy.
Kardashian got ahead of the commentary and answered all our collective questions during a red carpet interview with Variety.
She revealed that she had gotten her hair and makeup done despite both her hair and face being covered (you know, rich people things), and said the mask won’t stay on forever.
“I’ll probably take it off upstairs to eat,” Kardashian said, thankfully confirming that none of that boujee gala food will go to waste.
If Kardashian’s outfit looks familiar (beyond Dune or The Mummy), that’s because she has donned a similar look before, rocking up to the Met Gala in 2021 in an all-black body suit and train that completely covered her face.
I’d say she’s reheating her nachos, but she’d have to take off that damn mask in order to even eat them.
