Kim Kardashian is playing a key role in the release of wrongfully convicted prisoners

It’s no secret that Kim Kardashian is interested in criminal justice. In June of last year, she helped free Alice Marie Johnson from a life sentence for her involvement in drug trafficking.

In her recent cover story with Vogue, Kardashian revealed that she started a four-year apprenticeship last summer at a law firm in San Francisco. She even plans to take the bar exam in 2022.

In addition, Kardashian has also been quietly funding the 90 Days of Freedom project. The project is meant to help free inmates who received Draconian sentences, or sentences in which the punishment for the crime is overly cruel.

Kardashian teamed up with attorney Brittany K. Barnett, who founded the Buried Alive Advocacy Group, to help free these inmates, who were jailed on low-level drug offense charges. According to TMZ, Kardashian and Barnett have now assisted in freeing 17 inmates over the past three months.

Last week, a man named Jeffrey Stringer from Miami was released from prison after spending over two decades locked up because of a low-level drug charge. Kardashian helped fund his case and got him out of his life sentence.

Cyntoia Brown was another lucky inmate, as Kardashian joined Cara Delevigne and Rihanna to back Brown’s release. She spent 12 years in prison for killing the man who bought her for sex when she was 16 years old.

Terrence Byrd, Eric Balcom and Jamelle Carraway were among the other inmates released from life sentences for low-level drug offenses with the help of Kardashian and her funds.

Last year, President Trump also signed the First Step Act, which allows nonviolent offenders to gain an early release through good behavior. This, along with Kardashian’s efforts, will likely help many inmates gain their freedom. In fact, on Sunday’s Keeping Up With the Kardashians, Kim was filmed searching for more harshly convicted inmates to assist.

In the words of Kris Jenner, “You’re doing amazing, sweetie.”
