Kim Kardashian West's funding of the 90 Days Freedom campaign — spearheaded by lawyers Brittany Barnett and MiAngel Cody — has helped free 17 inmates in 3 months who had been serving life sentences for low-level drug offenses, TMZ reports.

The big pictures: Kardashian West was influential in President Trump's decision to commute Alice Johnson's life sentence and has become an outspoken supporter of criminal justice reform. Her most recent efforts have been enabled by the First Step Act, which was championed by Jared Kushner and which Trump signed into law late last year. Kardashian West is also currently studying for the bar exam to become a lawyer.
