A Kim Kardashian fan tried smuggling £2m to Dubai after reportedly undergoing surgery to look like the star.

Tara Hanlon, 30, admitted money laundering offences after she was caught trying to fly to Dubai with almost £2m in suitcases.

Hanlon, from Leeds, was stopped at Heathrow Airport as she tried to board a flight to the United Arab Emirates in October 2020.

Border officials found more than £1.9m cash in pound sterling stashed into five suitcases, which was described at the time as the largest airport cash haul of 2020..

The 30-year-old, who appeared via a video-link at Isleworth Crown Court on Thursday, pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to remove criminal property from England and Wales between July 13 and October 4 last year, reports Leeds Live.

Hanlon admitted three counts of removing criminal property, relating to cash amounts of £1.4m on July 14, £1.1m on August 10 and £1m on August 31 last year (PA)

Hanlon was granted bail with the case adjourned by Judge Giles Curtis-Raleigh (PA)

Maureen Downs told Mail Online prior to her granddaughter's guilty pleas that Hanlon had a "heart of gold" and had "never been in trouble".

She said: "'I know my granddaughter and she would never do anything like what she is accused of. She has a heart of gold.

She is a lovely girl and she had never, ever been in in trouble. I want to know if somebody switched her bags. I can't see her having the confidence to go through an airport like that."

Hanlon was granted bail with the case adjourned by Judge Giles Curtis-Raleigh.

She will return for sentencing on July 26 and has been warned to expect a spell behind bars.

The judge told her: “Obviously, it will be a prison sentence. You must be ready for that – bring a bag."
