2025 has been a lot of “sure, why the hell not?” and the recent statement from Kim Kardashian is just another tally on that list. Because sure, why the hell not, let’s bring back the faked moon landing discourse in 2o25 because enough historical parallels aren’t going on right now.
On a recent episode of The Kardashians, Kim said that she believes the moon landing was fake.
“They’re gonna say I’m crazy no matter what, but like, go to TikTok. See for yourself. […] There’s no gravity on the moon. Why is the flag blowing? The shoes that they have in the museum that they wore on the moon is a different print in the photos. Why are there no stars?”
TikTok is, quite honestly, the devil’s work. While it can be an educational tool, its primary target is those gullible enough to believe anything they see online. Ever since the moon landing happened it has had conspiracy theorists claiming that it’s fake. Like one user pointed out, “Kim Kardashian is recycling the same thoroughly debunked 1970s conspiracy claims, sourced from the echo chamber of an algorithm.”
And therein lies the problem itself. As social media grows and people begin to find community, conspiracy theories like this can never fully die, because they will always find an echo chamber to be circled around in ad infinitum. While TikTok itself isn’t necessarily making people dumber, it is pulling to the forefront the easily gullible. Their masses grow thanks to recycled disinformation, and then it becomes a tangled mess nobody can sort out because who knows which end is what.
However, why Kim Kardashian is talking about it remains firmly in the “sure, why the hell not?” category. And it also makes me wonder what her algorithm is like. Do you think she gets memes? What other conspiracy theories is she being led to believe?
Please, I beg of you, stop citing TikTok as a source. If your TikTok doesn’t come with sources, maybe open up trusty Google! The moon landing happened. I promise you!
