Kim Kardashian tells Trump: 'Stop tweeting and golfing while people in Puerto Rico are dying'

Kim Kardashian joined the chorus of people criticising Donald Trump for attacking the mayor of San Juan, slamming the President for “golfing while people in Puerto Rico are dying”.

After Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz made an affecting plea for more aid and said her people were “dying” in part because of “the inefficiency and the bureaucracy” in the Trump administration’s hurricane response, Mr Trump fired back at Ms Cruz. He wrote that she showed “poor leadership” and blamed her for failing to get “workers to help”.

After deleting his initial tweet fusillade, Mr Trump returned to the subject by again criticising Ms Cruz and deriding “fake news”.

The fact that Mr Trump was writing from his Bedminster, New Jersey golf club - where he often spends his weekends - was not lost on Ms Kardashian.

Many Twitter users juxtaposed Mr Trump’s location with an image of Ms Cruz wading through deep water.

Democratic lawmakers also rallied behind Ms Cruz, saying the President owed her an apology. Lin Manuel-Miranda, the creator and star of the hit play “Hamilton”, also assailed Mr Trump in a widely shared series of tweets. Mr Manuel-Miranda, who has family in Puerto Rico, said Mr Trump was going "straight to hell".

Battered in quick succession by hurricanes Irma and Maria, Puerto Rico is largely without electricity and faces shortages of food, water and medicine.
