After years as Sex and the City's Samantha Jones, it is no exaggeration to say that actress Kim Cattrall is one of New York's most recognized faces. She's become so synonymous with the city that served as Samantha's backdrop, that we could be forgiven for believing that the British-born actress only somewhere between Soho and the Upper East Side – but the reality couldn't be further removed.
After 20 years on the Hamptons shore, Kim Cattrall moved to an idyllic Vancouver Island home with her partner, Russell Thomas – and it has a backyard that is hard to rival. And, while she does still own an apartment on Park Avenue, her Canadian base is an entire world away.
The actress usually keeps her home private; however, she has shared a glimpse of the incredible view from the backyard and balcony of her home, showcasing the Pacific Northwest landscape in all its glory – orca whales included.
Where does Kim Cattrall live?
Kim was born in Liverpool, England, but grew up on Vancouver Island, around 40 minutes from her home, shown above. With its mountainous landscape, the actress's homeland is the jewel of the British Columbian island.
'I always wanted a quiet beachfront home outside the glam,' Kim shared with the New York Times when discussing her former Hamptons home. However, it seems she has replicated this ideology at her Canadian base: 'A home that would be restorative and simple to maintain, where I could have privacy, relax, and decompress. My home has been my sanctuary.'
Alongside the desired therapeutic qualities, the waterfront house – on the island's east coast – also brings back inevitable memories of her childhood post-Liverpool.
'I’m coming home again,' she also shared with People. 'The mountains, the orcas, when I was a teenager, I didn’t appreciate it. But now, they’re bringing me back.'
As mentioned, the actress does not often share pictures inside her Canadian property, however, her former Hamptons property suggests she loves coastal decor – with a beautiful blue neutral color scheme at the forefront of the main living spaces.
In New York, Kim Cattrall called upon her friend, and Manhattan-based interior designer Tony Ingrao, to create her more Samantha Jones-approved space.
The designer, and his firm, are known for curating spaces that consider relationships 'between elements of light, texture, scale, and unexpected materials' – while highlighting the connection 'between our interiors and its natural surroundings' – something that would work seamlessly with this coastal backdrop.
