Kilwinning Rangers to take cautious approach with striker after 'Runner's Knee' diagnosis

Kilwinning Rangers are to take a cautious approach with striker Thomas Collins after getting to the bottom of a painful knee problem.

The 25-year-old has been diagnosed with Runner's Knee - an overuse injury common among sportsmen and women.

And Kilwinning manager Chris Strain says the condition means Collins' involvement needs be scaled down for the forseeable future.

"It's something we have to carefully manage just now," said Strain.

"The best option is for Thomas to sit out training completely at the moment - but he will make himself available Saturday to Saturday."

Strain’s selection woes have eased significantly in recent weeks, with defender Kieran Wood the latest player to come back from a long lay-off.

Midfielder Ben Lewis and defender Ross Smith are the only long-term injury concerns.

Strain admits he's still in the market for new players, but doesn't expect any movement before the end of the year.

He added: "We are still looking on that front although it will probably be January before we are able to do anything because of the situation just now with players and clubs."
