Kilwinning Rangers to build lasting tribute to legendary manager John Evans

Kilwinning Rangers are set to build a lasting tribute to late club legend John Evans.

The club this week unveiled plans to name a stand at Buffs Park after the former manager who passed away last week, aged 76.

Evans was known fondly by supporters as ‘Messiah’ during four successful years in the hotseat from 1986-1990.

And Kilwinning chairman Colin Boyd reckons naming a proposed family stand in his honour would be a fitting tribute to a man highly revered in Kilwinning.

Boyd said: “It was something we had talked about before John passed away.

“We’re planning an enclosure behind one of the goals for mums and dads to bring their kids to games and we’re going to call it the Messiah Army stand.

“John was all about the community and the club wouldn’t be where it is now without him so it feels only right to honour him in this way.”
