Kilwinning Rangers star's work ethic hailed as return to team has immediate impact

Chris Strain reckons Calvin Kemp can be a ready-made replacement for Alex McWaters following the winger’s sudden departure from Kilwinning Rangers.

Buffs fans were shocked on Thursday when it was announced McWaters had been released from the club with immediate effect.

No explanation was offered at the time but boss Strain revealed on Saturday that a disagreement over money led to a mutual parting of the ways.

He said: “The club had agreed everyone's remuneration between now and Christmas.

“Alex cited his displeasure over his remuneration so we allowed him to go.”

The shock move coincides with a return to the fold for Kemp, who made a cameo appearance from the bench against Cumbernauld.

Strain said: “Calvin was excellent. He’s worked his absolute socks off in the last month and a half to get himself to a standard that’s capable of playing at our level.

“He gave us exactly what we required when he came on with absolute belief in his own ability.

“He’s got a skill set that allows us to get on the front foot and he changed the dynamic of the game for us.”
