Kilwinning Rangers boss eyes fresh faces after he's forced to include teenage son on bench

Kilwinning boss Chris Strain is closing in on a couple of fresh faces to bolster his wafer thin squad.

The manager admitted he was actively seeking reinforcements after a skeleton Buffs side grabbed a 1-0 win against Rossvale on Saturday.

Strain had to draft in his teenage son Ben to fill a spot on the bench after a raft of unavailable players left him short.

And Strain said: “We’ll have bodies back and hopefully we get a couple of bodies in.

“We’ve a couple of irons in the fire and we want to give the squad a boost. The boys certainly deserve it as they’ve given there all until now.”

Strain Jnr – who plays for Kilwinning’s U16 team– and fellow youth prospect Daniel Sweeney were unused subs against Rossvale.

“Unfortunately the U20s team had a cup tie which meant we couldn’t use them,” explained boss Strain.

“Ben and Daniel have been training with us and they’ve shown that they can cope but it wasn’t a game to throw in a young boy.“
