Kilwinning father and son record free music dvd for every care home in Scotland

A Kilwinning father and son have recorded an ‘advent calendar of song’ to bring Christmas cheer to people across Scotland living in care homes.

Ron and Ronald Swanson, who have been recording a variety of musical videos in their home and sharing on social media throughout the pandemic, are currently posting their advent calendar of song on Facebook every day will continue until Christmas Eve.

But they wanted to reach even more people with their special brand of Christmas magic.

Ron Swanson senior said: “Once the recording of the 16 tracks had been completed and opportunity given to review the tracks, our thoughts turned towards the care home sector which has been so severely challenged throughout the pandemic.

“We asked ourselves a couple of questions: ‘How could we personally bring a little Christmas cheer, comfort and peace to residents, families, management and staff within the care home sector?’ and ’How could this be achieved?’

“We decided to explore the cost and concept of producing 2000 DVDs, to be sent as a Christmas gift to all 1200 care homes in Scotland; and gifting the balance of 800 DVDs to individuals within our community who do not have access to Facebook, possibly living alone, feeling lonely and socially isolated.

“Working with local Ayrshire charities and churches a recipient list was compiled.”

Ron senior approached a number of potential sponsors in Ayrshire and presented the idea and dream of sharing the love of Christmas through music within the care home sector; and with those within our community facing loneliness and social isolation.

Three generous sponsors stepped up to fully fund the initiative. Ron continued: “Sincere thanks and appreciation to our three sponsors - The Crematorium & Memorial Group (CMG), Kitchens by JS Geddes and Microtech Group who have so kindly and generously helped to make our dream become a reality.

“They have been instrumental in ‘making it happen’ and are the reason thousands of people, throughout Scotland, will have the opportunity to enjoy this ‘Christmas Gift’ DVD; and through the wonderful and therapeutic gift of music hopefully bring much needed cheer, joy, comfort and peace to their lives.”

The distribution of the DVD started on Friday
