Kilwinning Burns pupils rewarded by club in competition

Talented young Burnsians were rewarded by Kilwinning Burns Club.

The club hosted its annual Founders Day competition, which involves children from all of the town’s primary schools, in the Number 0 Masonic Lodge last Saturday.

The Primary 1, 2 and 3 winner was Willow Travers from Pennyburn who recited “The Crocodile”.

Primary 4 and 5 honours went to Jonathan Smith from St Winning’s who recited “To A Mouse”.

The Primary 6 and 7 winner was Rebecca McDonald from St Luke’s PS who recited “Address To The Toothache”.

The John Kilpatrick Trophy was won by Mason Boyd from Blacklands PS for his recital of “Willie Wastle”.

Kilwinning Burns Club president Scott Gallacher said: “We had a full turnout on the day, and the standard was exceptionally high this year. This can only bode well for the future.

“The winners themselves will be invited to perform at the club’s annual Burns Supper in February. The committee would like to thank all the parents and grandparents for getting the kids along to the lodge early on a Saturday morning.”

Cheques were also presented from the club to Kilwinning Orchestral Flutes, Kilwinning Boys Brigade, Kilwinning Girl Guides and Kilwinning Scout Group.
