Kilo of cannabis worth €20,000 seized after gardai stop boy in Blanchardstown

A boy has been arrested after gardai seized a kilo of cannabis worth €20,000 in Blanchardstown last week.

The boy was spotted acting suspiciously in the Fortlawn area last Thursday by members of the K District Community Action team (K-Cats).

When members of the team approached the boy he cycled up a laneway and was seen throwing away a package.

Gardai gave chase and caught the boy. They also recovered the package which was found to contain the drugs.

A garda spokesperson said: "On the 17th October 2019 members of the K District Community Action team (K-Cats) were carrying out patrols in the Fortlawn estate area of Blanchardstown when they observed a juvenile on a bicycle acting suspiciously.

"When they approached the juvenile, he cycled off through a laneway and was seen discarding a package.

"Gardaí arrested the youth after a foot chase and recovered the package which contained a kilo of cannabis herb valued as €20,000. He was arrested and detained for questioning."
