Kilmarnock worthy of win says Ian McCall but he reckons Partick Thistle competed well

Ian McCall admits Kilmarnock deserved to win yesterday's cinch Championship showdown – but reckons his side aren't too far away from competing.

The Partick Thistle boss watched his side lose 2-0 to the Ayrshire side in the second half thanks to a Kevin Holt own goal and an Oli Shaw wonder strike.

McCall has no issues with the result but is remaining positive and thinks Partick were the better side for spells of the game.

He said: "Listen, I didn’t think there was lot in the game but on chances Kilmarnock deserved to win.

"I felt they were more streetwise than us and we had more possession, more corners and more shots at goal but we didn’t have any clear cut chances so in that respect Kilmarnock deserved to win.

"Both goals from our point of view – it was criminal for Sneds [Jamie Sneddon, goalkeeper] to save the penalty and then for us to give one away what one or two minutes later.

"We’ve played inverness and Kilmarnock in the last two weeks and I think they’ll both be up there but we’re not far that off them to be honest but I don’t think we created a lot of chances today.

"We had a lot of balls into the box but didn’t create chances.

"Their long ball over the top caused us problems all day and so in that respect they deserved to win."

He added: "There were stages where we were on top.

"But even in that period I’m not sure we created. We had a lot of possession and got into areas but I’m not sure we made any clear cut chances.

"A couple in the second half we should have done better with but there’s not much between us and they’ve come down from the Premiership and we’ve come up from League One and I’m not sure there’s much between us.

"But on the day, in terms of playing streetwise football, Kilmarnock deserved to win because they made the better chances."
