Kilmarnock woman's special tribute to cousin who died four years after being paralysed

A Kilmarnock woman will pay tribute to her cousin this weekend ahead of what would've been his 27th birthday.

Jamie Hay was only 20 when he passed away in 2014 — four years after a road traffic accident left him paralysed in 2010.

Now Jamie's cousin, Natalie Hay, has organised a virtual fun run set to take place tomorrow.

The 25-year-old has arranged the event so that friends, family and Spinal Research supporters can come together online and celebrate Jamie's life ahead of his birthday on Tuesday, April 13.

The fundraiser will raise vital cash and awareness for the charity Spinal Research.

And so far, Natalie's tribute event has smashed the fundraising target with more than £5,000 raised to date.

Natalie said: "I have been organising the event for my big cousin Jamie, to keep his legacy alive and fund research which will help stop families going through the same traumatic experience.

"I am overwhelmed by the support from everyone who knew Jamie."

Natalie and her family would like to thank all those who taking part this year, as well as those who have contributed online.

Jamie's mum, Linda Hay added: "I’m so touched with everyone signing up and raising money for spinal research. He certainly was a much loved boy."
