Kilmarnock woman, 82, dies in horror crash on A710

An 82-year-old Kilmarnock woman has today been named as the victim of a car crash in south-west Scotland.

Helen McCallum died after the Vauxhall Astra she was travelling in collided with another Vauxhall Astra on the A710 at Barnbarroch between Dalbeattie and Kippford on Thursday, May 23 at around 9.35pm.

Another three people were taken to hospital with injuries as a result of the collision.

Emergency services attended and Ms McCallum was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other occupants of the cars were taken to the Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary.

Two men, aged 83 and 23, and a 20-year-old woman remain in hospital.

The road was closed for several hours allowing for crash scene investigation to be carried out.

Sergeant Paul Dodds said: “An investigation is underway to establish the circumstances of the crash.

"I am appealing to anyone who was on the A710 around the time of the incident to contact us.

"In particular, I’m asking motorists with dash cams to check their footage and hand in any images which could assist us in our enquiries.”

Anyone with information is asked to call road policing officers in Dumfries via 101, quoting incident number 4370 of May 23, 2019.
