Chris Burke admits he couldn’t bring himself to wear a jersey that wasn’t Kilmarnock’s.
The veteran winger has signed up for another year at Rugby Park as he aims to guide them back to the Scottish Premiership.
He joins Rory McKenzie, Brandon Haunstrup, Aaron McGowan and Calum Waters as remainers from last season’s relegated squad.
And the 37-year-old is raring to go.
He said: “It feels excellent to sign a new deal.
“It took a bit of time, the decision-making process was a bit slower than people would have thought.
“But I had to do what was right for myself but also for the football club.
“I am delighted to get it over the line and meeting the group was great too, there’s a lot of new faces.”
Speaking to Killie TV, the player added: “I had to reflect on what happened last season, it was disappointing personally and collectively.
“Everyone was hurt by it, but I had to strip back the emotions and think rationally.
“That’s why it took a few weeks.
“I spoke to my family and they helped decide if I should continue or not.
“I still have that passion and drive, I was humbled by the interest of other clubs, but I can’t see myself pulling on another jersey and that’s what it came down to.
“I am delighted to start this new challenge.
“The manager has been great through this, he has stayed in contact and respected my time to make the decision.
“The board have been great too, and I am delighted they still had the desire to keep me here.”
