Kilmarnock vs Motherwell fixture KO confirmed as Scottish football faces fresh covid nightmare

Kilmarnock's match with Motherwell has officailly been cancelled five hours before the scheduled kick-off in wake of the cornavirus outbreak at Rugby Park.

Three of Alex Dyer 's players were forced to quarantine after testing positive earlier this week but the game was still scheduled to go ahead as planned.

On Thursday though Killie subjected all their squad to a new round of testing, and confirmed on later that day that a further three players had tested positive for COVID.

That means Kilmarnock 's first team squad will have to quarantine for up two weeks after they held discussions with Ayrshire and Arran Health Board on Friday, as well as the Joint Response Group.

And now the SPFL have officially cancelled the clash after crunch talks, with suggestions to get the game in including the Rugby Park having to potentially include an underage side to fulfil the fixture.

A spokesman for the Scottish Professional Football Leagu said: “No new date for this fixture has been set, pending the outcome of the SPFL investigation.”

It comes after Kilmarnock confirmed the latest setback to hit Scottish football.

A statement announced: "Kilmarnock Football Club can confirm a further three individuals have recorded positive tests for COVID-19 following today’s round of testing.

"In addition to the three positive tests recorded by the club earlier this week, this means six players in total have now tested positive and will require to self-isolate as per Scottish Government guidelines."
