Kilmarnock v Hibs: Josh Doig back in squad for Rugby Park trip but trio miss out through injury

Josh Doig is set to be back in the Hibernian squad ahead of the trip to Kilmarnock after ending his fortnight in self-isolation to return to training this week.

The teenage full back was quarantined at home after playing a part in the Scotland under-19's aborted friendly with England at St George's Park after a previously undiscovered revealed manager Billy Stark was positive for the condition.

Doig was back in training at East Mains on Thursday, however Jack Ross will be without the services of Jamie Murphy and Drey Wright for the trip to Rugby Park.

Both limped out of Betfred Cup ties earlier this month, with Scott Allan also a long-term absentee.

The Easter Road side saw their grip on third place in the Scottish Premiership slip in midweek following Aberdeen's 4-2 win over Hamilton Accies.

However Ross said he was "delighted" by their opening quarter of the campaign after registering just two defeats from their opening 11 games, including an opening day win over Killie at in Leith.

"I have been encouraged about the different ways we've achieved points, we've not always been brilliant, we've been good some games, average in others but we've found a way to collect points," he said.

"Obviously if we can replicate those results over these next set of fixtures, we can put ourselves in a good position and if we can replicate it over the whole season, we will end up in a good place."

Doig missed the goalless draw at Ross County last week following his involvement in the abandoned friendly at England's national performance centre.

Players were forced to stand still on the pitch until a decision was taken on how to proceed after the positive test was uncovered, with all players locked down for two weeks upon their return to Scotland.

Doig tested negative for the virus prior to his comeback at East Mains, with Hibs delivering exercise equipment to his home along with a fitness plan to ensure he was ready to return.

Ross admitted the full back would be unlikely to start at Rugby Park after his impressive breakthrough into the first tea, with club legend Lewis Stevenson likely to deputise.

He added players were now getting used to being away from the training pitch even when they have not tested positive for the condition.

Ross said: "You can't really replicate being in amongst the group. That was a fortnight we were without hm [Josh].

"It was nice to have him back in and he has been pleased to be back as well , it was a long couple of weeks for him.

"Once you are into the guts of the season, if you are out for ten days with a slight knock then I don't think you have too many concerns about them coming back into the team too quickly.

"Particularly in Josh's case because he was obviously isolating through contact rather than having the virus himself so from a general point of view, he was ok."
