Kilmarnock v Ayr United season opener switched to Monday night TV date

The Scottish Championship's season-opening Ayrshire derby will take place on a Monday night.

It was expected to take place on the first Friday night – but it has been switched to Monday, August 2. It will kick-off at 7.45pm and be shown live on BBC Scotland.

Killie will be playing their first season outside Scotland's top-flight since 1993 and have a host of new changes to their squad.

Yesterday they announced Chris Burke will be staying on at the ripe old age of 37.

Killie have sold over 2,500 season tickets while Ayr have exceeded the 500 mark.

A Kilmarnock statement read: "We will open our cinch Championship campaign at home to Ayr United on Monday, August 2.

"The match will be shown live on the BBC Scotland channel with kick off set for 7.45pm at Rugby Park.

"The club remain in detailed discussions with the local authority over the number of supporters allowed to return to the stadium.

"Our ambition is to maximise the number of season ticket holders able to come to Rugby Park and we will provide a further update as soon as we can.

"We’re also working to confirm arrangements for July’s Premier Sports Cup matches and we’ll share this information with you as soon as it is confirmed."
