A Kilmarnock travel company have gone the extra mile for their community.
Barrhead Travel rallied their team to take part in the company’s annual Day of Giving campaign.
The initiative demonstrates a commitment to alleviate hunger in each community where the conpany has a branch.
Each of Barrhead Travel’s 37 stores and their head office teams took part by donating money, food and time to foodbanks in their area.
Staff at the Kilmarnock branch opted to support East Ayrshire Foodbank.
Cash donation stations were set up at each store, allowing employees and customers alike to contribute.
Altogether the company have raised over £1100 with donations continuing to be submitted.
All monetary donations were sent to the Trussell Trust, which has a network of more than 1200 foodbanks in the UK.
Each team member from the Kilmarnock branch helped to collect crates of non-perishable food items and hygiene products.
Efforts stretched to the team’s family, friends and customers.
Leon Brown, managing director at Barrhead Travel Kilmarnock, said: “The volunteer work at East Ayrshire Foodbank is incredible.
“We are delighted that we were able to help the centre deliver their service at this, unfortunately, busy time.
“I am so proud of our team. Everyone got whole-heartedly involved and showed so much compassion.”
Over 300 items were collected for the local foodbank with over 7000 items collected company-wide.
The company recently handed over donations to its charity partner Just a Drop.
They were used to start work on providing a fresh water tank for a Ugandan health centre.
