Kilmarnock to face Larne as Tommy Wright plans Northern Ireland build up for big kick-off

Kilmarnock will travel to Northern Ireland as part of their build up to the big kick-off.

Manager Tommy Wright is taking his new-look squad to his homeland for a pre-season friendly with Larne at Inver Park on Saturday, July 3.

Northern Irishman Wright wants the trip across the North Channel to help the squad gel ahead of their Premier Sports Cup opener at Lowland League East Kilbride the following Saturday.

Larne have become big players in the Irish Premiership in recent years and notched up a fourth-placed finish last season.

That was enough to secure a European play-off final with Cliftonville who they beat 3-1 to qualify for the inaugural Europa Conference League.

The first-round qualifying draw was made today and Tiernan Lynch's team will face Welsh Premier League side Bala Town next month with their participation netting them a £200,000 payday.

Larne also reached the final Irish Cup last season – losing 2-1 to league champions Linfield.

Meanwhile, 17-year-old youth academy graduate Steven Warnock has signed a two-year contract extension with Kilmarnock who will face derby rivals Ayr United on the opening day of the Championship season on Saturday, July 31.
