Kilmarnock teenager rides inflatable unicorn through flooded streets

A teenager made the most of Kilmarnock's flood-hit streets last night.

Jordan Buckland straddled an inflatable unicorn after the town was hit by heavy rainfall late in the afternoon.

The A77 was closed between the Bellfield Interchange in Kilmarnock and the Dutch House Roundabout in Ayr after severe flooding hit the area.

Homes in Shortlees took some of the worst damage with a number of homes becoming flooded late in the evening.

Eighteen-year-old binman Jordan sailed on the unicorn, using a plank of wood as a paddle, in a bid to raise residents' spirits.

He said: "I just saw that the streets were beginning to flood and I went to Tesco and bought a £7 inflatable unicorn.

"I'm from Shortlees and I was sorry to see everything that happened and I just wanted to bring a smile to everyone's faces.

"My street was fine but my gran stays close by and her street was hit pretty bad by the flooding.

"A lot of people were crowding round me and laughing and taking pictures of the boat.

"I hope I brightened the situation up for some people."
