Kilmarnock sexual abuse charity gets Fringe festival support

A Kilmarnock charity dedicated to supporting survivors of rape and sexual assault has been supported at this year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Break The Silence received over £680 as a result of playwright and performer Alex Gwyther’s one-man play ‘Ripped’.

The play explores the devastating reasons why 96 per cent of male rape cases go unreported.

Ripped – which performed to critical acclaim throughout the festival – follows the character of Jack, who is raped in an unprovoked attack by a stranger, in the aftermath of his trauma.

Break The Silence, based in Kilmarnock town centre, received a copy of the play in advance of its screening and helped to support and promote Alex’s play by setting up a Ripped page on their website directing visitors to routes to support across Scotland.

Alex raised £685.87 in aid of Break The Silence. To refer for support, visit www.breakthesilence.org.uk or call (01563) 559558.
