Kilmarnock sexual abuse charity call for Kiltwalk volunteers to lend their support

An Ayrshire charity dedicated to survivors of sexual violence and abuse is calling on supporters to put on their walking shoes.

Break The Silence is looking for keen fundraisers to back the organisation at this year's Kiltwalk.

The Kiltwalk is a challenge with three distance options catering to all levels of walking experience.

The day gives participants a chance to team build, raise vital funds for charity – and even win a car courtesy of Arnold Clark.

The Hunter Foundation will also top up all money raised by 50 per cent making the event a key opportunity for local independent charities.

Break The Silence chief executive Lesley Craig attended a launch event with Sir Tom Hunter and Kiltwalk CEO Paul Cooney.

They were also joined at the event by Corinne Hutton of amputee charity Finding Your Feet.

Lesley said: "It would be amazing if we could recruit people to walk in aid of Break The Silence.  Alternatively as volunteers helping on the day, they would be able to nominate a charity for a donation from Kiltwalk in return for their volunteering."

Last year the charity received support in the Kiltwalk from Kilmarnock MP Alan Brown and his wife Cyndi.

This year's events take place in Glasgow on Sunday, April 26 followed by events in Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Dundee later this year. Details can be found at: www.thekiltwalk.co.uk
