Kilmarnock’s iconic viaduct glowed yellow to celebrate Gypsy traveller history month.
The B-listed railway bridge was lit for the last week of June.
The colour was chosen as a nod to the tradition of ‘Yellow on the broom’ when gypsies, Roma and travellers begin to move around.
It was part of East Ayrshire Council’s efforts to mark Gypsy, Roma and traveller history month.
Scottish traveller Davie Donaldson said online: “Amazing show of solidarity.”
The council’s gypsy, traveller integration and engagement officer Margo MacMillan said: “In East Ayrshire equality and fairness are central to our ethos.
“We’re working hard with all our communities to promote awareness, engagement and equal access to facilities and services.
“All our housing staff have undergone training and we’re rolling out a wider online course to all our employees and community partners to ensure Gypsy travellers are met with empathy, respect and cooperation instead of barriers and enforcement.”
Plans for exhibitions and events had to be cancelled but the council put videos and messages of support on social media.
Ms MacMillan thanked people from the travelling community for sharing their stories and points of view.
She added: “It’s testament to what can be achieved when we all pull together to understand appreciate culture and diversity for the way it can enrich everyone’s daily lives.”
