Kilmarnock's Galleon Centre closes its doors due to coronavirus crisis

The Galleon is the latest Ayrshire leisure centre to close its doors to the public.

The Kilmarnock centre closed yesterday as precautions are taken across the country to minimise the impact of the coronavirus.

A statement posted on the centre's Facebook page last night thanked customers for their patience.

The statement reads: "As everyone is undoubtedly aware the situation relating to coronavirus COVID-19 is creating disruption around the world.

"The Galleon Centre has followed advice from the government and local authorities in providing a safe environment and so ensuring everyone has a personal choice to make whether to attend or not.

"Unfortunately after much discussion between the Kilmarnock Leisure Centre Trust and the local authority, the decision has been taken to close the Galleon Centre at 11.30pm on Wednesday, March 18.

"Further updates will be posted as and when information becomes available.

"We'd like to thank all of our customers for their patience and understanding during this challenging period."
