Kilmarnock's Brandon Haunstrup not taking Stranraer lightly as defender eyes cup success

Brandon Haunstrup sees no reason why Kilmarnock can't go far in the Premier Sports Cup – as long as they qualify from the group.

His side can win the group today as long as they win and better Clyde's result or better their winning margin by three goals.

And the defender wants the Ayrshire side to show what they can do.

He said: “We’re taking this competition very seriously. We’re out to win every game – that’s what the manager has been drilling into us and all of the boys have bought into it.

“The summer is always a period of transition for clubs and we’re getting used to changes here.

“We’ve got a new back four but I feel we’ve been pretty solid so far.

“We’d love to get out of the group and draw one of the bigger teams. That’s something we would relish.

“We did pretty well against the better teams last season – apart from Celtic at home – so we would fancy our chances."

He added: “We’ll get the blinkers on, get our heads down and just focus on winning the game – get the job done.

“We dug in deep in midweek to get a result – even if the goal came a bit late – and getting the extra point was important.

“Now it’s about playing well and getting the result against Stranraer.”
