Kilmarnock recycling centre reopening date confirmed by East Ayrshire Council

Kilmarnock’s tip will reopen on Monday June 1, it was confirmed today.

The Western Road recycling centre will open alongside the rest of Scotland’s dumps.

COSLA – the national association of local authorities – announced on Friday that leaders have agreed to plan for the reopening of tips.

East Ayrshire bosses are currently working out the final details of the reopening. It comes after a surge in fly-tipping across the region.

A council spokeswoman told the Kilmarnock Standard: “We are preparing to reopen our recycling centres on Monday, June 1.

“Detailed plans are currently being finalised that will ensure the safety of our workforce and our residents. Full details will be announced later this week.”

COSLA environment and economy spokesperson Steven Heddle said: “The reopening of sites depends on receiving assurance that this will not negatively impact the COVID-19 infection rate and will be consistent with national travel advice.

“There will also be local considerations including the need to maintain physical distancing for staff and members and public which will determine whether and to what extent individual sites will be able to reopen.”
